Petri Dish by Beakerhead arrives at TELUS Spark Science Centre November 6–8, launching a new era for Calgary’s collision of science, art and engineering. With the University of Calgary and major support from Ovintiv and ATB, the festival expands across Spark and into the community with Beakernight, free admission on Saturday, November 7, $10 admission on Sunday, November 8, and UCalgary collaborations and pop-ups bringing curious Calgarians together in unexpected ways

Media and VIP guests are invited to the official launch on Friday, September 25, 2026, from 9–10:30 a.m. at TELUS Spark Science Centre. Impossible Geometries is a new Calgary-created interactive experience transforming 3,000 square feet into six immersive worlds where math, art and technology collide. Created by Axis-Z Media Arts and co-produced by TELUS Spark, floor-to-ceiling projections, handmade animation, original music and motion-tracking technology respond to visitors as they move, turning geometry into something guests can see, hear, explore and change.

Calgary’s beloved 30-foot scrap-metal Albertosaurus finally has a name. After 1,200+ community submissions, Rusty was officially revealed on August 26 at the Gathering Circle in Brainaisum Outdoor Park. Four-year-old Milan, one of the young dino-namers who submitted Rusty, joined the celebration with family. Chosen for its kid appeal, science connection and nod to the sculpture’s rust-brown patina, Rusty now has a forever name at Spark.

After nearly 10 years without a name, TELUS Spark Science Centre’s beloved 30-foot scrap-metal Albertosaurus is finally getting a proper introduction. Following an incredible 1,200 submissions from Calgarians, a staff Dino Naming Council has narrowed the creative, clever and wonderfully weird entries down to one forever name. Media and the community are invited to join young campers, Spark science experts and some prehistoric special guests for the official reveal on Wednesday, August 26 from 11:15 –11:45 a.m. at Brainasium Outdoor Park. Palaeontologist Dr. Emily Bamforth brings the remarkable story of Canada’s Tyrannosaurus rexes to TELUS Spark Science Centre on August 17 for A Tale of Canadian T. rexes. This exclusive after-hours talk explores some of Canada’s most significant discoveries, including Scotty, the world’s largest known T. rex, Alberta’s Black Beauty and the Huxley T. rex. Guests will hear directly from a leading palaeontologist about what scientists know, and are still discovering, about this prehistoric icon, with after-hours access to SUE: The T. rex Experience also included.

More than 60 custom-built combat robots will take over TELUS Spark Science Centre August 15 and 16 for Kilobots SIX SEVEN: 2026 Canadian National Championships. Builders from across Canada will put engineering, design and new technology to the test through two days of fast-paced robot combat, featuring veteran competitors, first-time teams and machines ranging from 150 g to 3 lb. Visitors can watch the battles, meet builders and get a behind-the-scenes look at the creativity, experimentation and engineering that keeps the Kilobots community battling after 25 years.

Indigenous youth will gather in Kananaskis on August 14 for the final day of Humility Science: Bow-Making, a three-day land-based workshop led by Iêthka Knowledge Keepers Alice Kaquitts and Tom Snow. Through the ancestral process of bow and arrow making, participants explore physics, aerodynamics, ecology and relationality with the Land, while learning the importance of patience, reciprocity, respect and humility.

TELUS Spark Science Centre welcomes guests to journey more than 500 million years into the past through an engaging presentation by Dr. Caron, a leading researcher on the Burgess Shale, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The exclusive evening combines world-class science, ancient fossils and adult curiosity in Calgary’s Infinity Dome theatre.

Tourism Calgary and TELUS Spark Science Centre officially welcomed Austrian travellers Hannes and Heidi Rammler to Calgary with the city’s iconic White Hat Ceremony and an honorary Sparkian welcome. Inspired by Terry Fox, the couple is travelling across Canada by camper after Hannes previously cycled the country in 2025. Tourism Calgary and TELUS Spark Science Centre welcomed Austrian travellers Hannes and Heidi Rammler to Calgary during their coast-to-coast camper adventure inspired by Terry Fox. Hannes first crossed Canada by bicycle in 2025, fulfilling a childhood dream and honouring the Marathon of Hope. Returning this summer with Heidi, the couple has travelled from Newfoundland and Labrador through remote highways, coastal communities and major Canadian cities, following curiosity and local recommendations along the way. Their Calgary stop included a Western Hospitality White Hat welcome by Tourism Calgary, commemorative Spark gifts and a visit to SUE: The T. rex Experience.

TELUS Spark Science Centre and TELUS are bringing back the TELUS Purple Galaxy Pass, giving Grade 7 students across Calgary and surrounding communities free unlimited admission for one year. The program removes financial barriers while offering hands-on exhibits, live science shows, immersive experiences and year-round STEAM learning. New this year, graduating pass holders can receive 40% off a TELUS Spark Child Membership for their first year after the program. Registration opens August 1 for the 2026–2027 school year.

TELUS Spark Science Centre received $879,065 from the Government of Canada through the Canada Cultural Spaces Fund to support upgrades to the Infinity Dome theatre and Digital Immersion Gallery spaces. The investment will help enhance audio-visual technology, accessibility, emergency safety systems, exhibit fabrication and digital infrastructure, supporting immersive science experiences that inspire curiosity, connection and discovery for students, families and visitors.

On June 23, 2026, TELUS Spark Science Centre will welcome media to a Government of Canada announcement celebrating a major investment through the Canada Cultural Spaces Fund to enhance the Infinity Dome theatre. The event features remarks from government and Spark leaders, followed by an exclusive screening of T.REX, showcasing how the funding will strengthen immersive science experiences, cultural programming, and giant-screen storytelling for visitors from across Alberta and beyond.

On June 26, 2026, TELUS Spark Science Centre will welcome media, donors and community leaders to an exclusive preview of SUE: The T. rex Experience, before the exhibition opens to the public on June 27. Guests will be among the first in Canada to experience the world’s most famous Tyrannosaurus rex through an immersive dinosaur exhibition featuring a dramatic reveal, photo opportunities, media interviews, and a first look at Calgary’s biggest prehistoric attraction of the summer.

TELUS Spark is welcoming Canadian Natural Resources Limited as the presenting partner of Science School, a week-long immersive STEAM program that has inspired more than 19,000 Calgary students and 700 teachers since 1997. Canadian Astronaut Colonel Joshua Kutryk Touches Down for Live Talk

TELUS Spark welcomes Canadian Space Agency astronaut Colonel Joshua Kutryk for a live public talk and Q&A on May 24, 2026. Guests will hear from the NASA SpaceX Crew-13 crew member about his journey to becoming one of Canada’s active astronauts and his upcoming mission aboard the International Space Station, alongside a full day of space-themed programming included with general admission and free for Spark Members.

TELUS Spark hosts a live launch viewing event for NASA’s Artemis II mission, marking the first crewed journey beyond Earth orbit in more than 50 years. Guests get to experience the historic launch of Canadian astronaut Colonel Jeremy Hansen’s mission around the Moon through live NASA coverage, space-themed activities, expert commentary, and immersive programming inside Spark’s Infinity Dome and Inspiration Stage.

TELUS Spark is turning sport science into a party with Science of Sports: Spark After Dark, powered by ATB, on April 10 from 6:00 PM to midnight. This 18+ event invites guests to test their athletic limits with hands-on activities like LED mini golf, hockey slapshots, biomechanics labs, inflatable curling, and axe throwing, while exploring the science behind performance, recovery, and adrenaline. Supporting Calgary’s Water Conservation Efforts with Science in Action

TELUS Spark supports Calgary’s water conservation efforts during the critical Bearspaw South Feeder Main repairs by encouraging visitors and the community to reduce water use through simple everyday actions. As a LEED Gold-certified facility, Spark already uses innovative systems that collect and reuse rainwater and stormwater, reducing reliance on municipal water while showcasing how science and sustainable design can make a meaningful impact.

TELUS Spark hosts Indigenous Science Night: Sport, Survival, Spirit on March 20, inviting guests to explore Indigenous and land-connected science through interactive activities, traditional games, storytelling, and community-led teachings. TELUS Spark Science Centre is pushing the limits of curiosity with Extreme Sports: Beyond Human Limits, an immersive exhibition exploring the science behind extreme athletic performance. Through hands-on challenges, interactive simulations, and stories from elite athletes, visitors can discover the psychology, physiology, and physics that drive humans to test the boundaries of endurance, focus, and achievement.

TELUS Spark Science Centre is bringing the beloved children’s classic Goodnight Moon to life in the Digital Immersion Gallery starting November 5. This multi-sensory experience invites guests to step inside the great green room and explore a world of nostalgia, art, and the science of sleep. Produced in partnership with Supply and Demand and licensed through HarperCollins, the exhibition transforms the iconic bedtime story into an interactive, story-driven adventure for all ages.

TELUS Spark Science Centre is hosting Indigenous Science Night: Ancestor Rocks on October 24, inviting guests to explore the science, stories, and teachings held within the oldest teachers — rocks. The evening features workshops, Elders’ teachings, hands-on activities, telescope viewing, live music, and a special outdoor cooking experience with Cree Chef Shane Chartrand. Admission is free for First Nations, Métis, and Inuit guests, with additional workshops available by ticket.

TELUS Spark Science Centre is celebrating the spookiest season of the year with HallowSTEAM: Webs, Wings & Wiggly Things, a month-long adventure running October 1–31. TELUS Spark Science Centre is teaming up with Cirque du Soleil for a special two-day event exploring the science behind some of the company’s most astonishing acts.
