ABOUT THE PROJECT
Neurorecital is an innovative concert format that involves video projection of 2018 Honens Prize Laureate Nicolas Namoradze’s brain during a piano recital.
These projections are created using Glass Brain, a cutting-edge neural visualization tool developed by Neuroscape.
A novel imaging and analysis methodology yields visualizations which are created in advance and synchronized via playback adjustment technology to the live performance.
This recital format is a new musical experience, exploring what can be understood about these pieces—and what it means to play them—by looking “inside” the performer’s mind.
The musical program for the project will consist of several musical works contrasting in style, texture, and technical demands, yielding clear differences in the visualizations.
Key partners in the development of the program: Neuroscape at the University of California, San Francisco; the Brain Dynamics Lab at the University of Calgary; and Honens.
