From October 1 to 31, HallowSTEAM gives Halloween a science makeover across TELUS Spark.
Catch live science shows, dissect a worm, get crafty with creepy creations and dig into hauntingly cool merch. Costumes? Encouraged.
And on October 31, the whole science centre becomes one big TEACH-or-TREAT adventure! Follow the treats to find out which programs come with a sweet reward.
Meet some of the smallest (and most surprising) creatures on the planet! Join bug educator Lady Buggy in the Atrium to discover the fascinating world of insects and other invertebrates, and learn why even the "creepy" ones deserve a little respect.
Oct 3-31, 11:00 AM - 2:00 PM
Creatures featured may vary from week to week.
Dare to dissect? Get up close with earthworm anatomy, explore its internal organs and find out how these wiggly wonders work from the inside out.
Ages 8+ (ages 8–11 need a grown-up helper). While supplies last.
Sign up at Steven's Lab.
Mon-Fri, 10:00 AM-2:00 PM | PD days and weekends, 10:00 AM-3:00 PM
Is it magic? No! It’s magnets!
Magic? Nope. Magnets! Head to the LEGO Lab and make ghosts that actually float, with a little supernatural science.
Every day, Oct 1-30: 10:00-11:00 AM & 1:00-2:00 PM
Oct 31: 10:00 AM-3:00 PM
Get to the heart of the matter. Our science facilitators dissect a real sheep heart live in the Being Human gallery, so you can see the chambers, valves and blood vessels that keep the blood pumping.
A fresh heart hits the table every 30 minutes, so drop in anytime. Want hands-on? A specially wrapped heart stays at the table all day for safe touching and holding.
Oct 31, 11:00 AM-3:00 PM
Heads up: these are real sheep hearts. If that's not your thing, you're welcome to watch from a distance.
Our robot dog is here for fright and delight. Throw on your best costume, make your scariest face and strike a pose with Flint.
Oct 31: 11:00 AM-12:00 PM & 3:00-4:00 PM
Flint's appearance is subject to change.
Get ready for a jolt of curiosity. From the tiniest particles to our towering Van de Graaff generator, see electromagnetism in action, with a little help from some brave audience volunteers. Let's switch on the Spark!
Fri-Sun, 11:30 AM & 1:30 PM
Meet nature's coolest cold-blooded creatures. The reptile experts from Calgary Reptile Parties bring amazing animals to the Atrium and share how they live, what they eat and how we can help protect them.
Sundays, Oct 4-25: 12:00-2:00 PM
Saturday, Oct 31: 12:00-2:00 PM
