BUGS IN SPACE

Astronomy and entomology together at last…this is the fusion of sciences that you never knew you needed!

Join in to discover what gorgeous grand galaxies and cute creepy crawlies have in
common. Meet an arachnid zodiac constellation and the story behind it. Also, we will journey to the Ant Nebula, the great star forming region known as the Tarantula Nebula, and we will also visit the Black Widow Nebula. Who knows you may even meet a real black widow at the event!

We will also showcase the history of insects who have travelled (wanted or unwanted) into outer space!

  • Georgia Blum
  • Lady Buggy, Nature and Insect Educator

About Georgia Blum

Georgia Blum has always loved two things: children, and learning about the natural world. She feels super lucky to have found a way to fuse these passions throughout her career as an
interpreter; she has spent the better part of two decades educating children and the public about animals and nature in the most fun and creative ways possible. With Lady Buggy, she gets to add another one of her fascinations–the world of small creepy crawly creatures! In fact, she has pet tarantulas that she thinks of as cute fuzzy eight legged kittens. Georgia was born and raised in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. She holds a B.A. in Communications Studies from the University of Calgary..

  • Simon Poole
  • Astronomer, Quantum Physicist

Simon was born in Calgary, Alberta, Canada and has lived at 51°N Latitude all his life. He went to school at the University of Calgary and earned a Master’s degree in theoretical quantum physics. He has always been interested in astronomy since his first department store Fisher-Price telescope at 3 years old. He has a deep interest in all sciences and their
interconnectedness to understanding the universe. Simon believes that astronomy and all of
STEM can be open to everyone. He works with the RASC to promote this belief of inclusion to inspire a diverse new generation of scientists.
