Spark is about to get called for icing – literally, as HOCKEY: Faster Than Ever is on now until March 13! It is time to lace up some skates and learn about the technology, anatomy and physics that goes into this Canadian classic.

The growth of modern hockey is complex, as it has ties back to numerous ball and stick games that come from ancient Europe – games that also influenced other sports like lacrosse, curling and rugby.
Learn about hockey, the rules and the standards that are followed by the National Hockey League (aka the NHL). Discover the intricacies of penalties, face-offs, player positions and so much more!
This section features a historical overview of ice hockey gear and how it has evolved over time. By comparing old and new equipment, visitors see how science evolved the sport, making it faster.
Using basic physics concepts, visitors learn how changes to gear have prioritized player safety and ways to optimize speed. The science behind performance are also explored, including player health, adaptations and sports measurement.
Have a favourite player? This section of the exhibition is all about the stars of hockey. It takes a lot to make a great player, and this is where you get to explore various scientific concepts that make a particular player best able to excel in their position.
Jump into the game and imagine yourself in the skates of a beloved player in the Tunnel. Experience what it is like to get that pre-game energy before heading out onto the ice. With wall projections and audio, this immersive experience will leave visitors feeling like they actually got sprayed by the snow on the ice.
Feel what it is like to step through the boards onto the ice in The Science Lab. This complete replica of a hockey rink, complete with a Jumbotron and stands for fans; this is where visitors are invited onto the ice and learn about what makes hockey physics-perfect! Discover the angles, power, speed, friction, momentum and force that goes behind those perfect slap-shots!
Variety – the Children’s Charity of Ontario is working with its partner chapters across Canada to build a VOLT Hockey League in Canada. VOLT Hockey is played by over 50 teams in Denmark, Germany, Norway, Sweden, the United States, and now in Canada.
VOLT Hockey is an accessible form of hockey that is played in a specifically designed hockey sport chair by people with a variety of disabilities, particularly those with limited upper mobility. For many of these children, it is their first opportunity to play on a team and learn valuable life skills such as team-building, competition, and social inclusion. These types of opportunities are critical, especially given that 52% of children with a disability report they have no friends.
