Meet Ryder St. Laurent

At just 14 years old, Ryder St. Laurent has already made an incredible impact as one of TELUS Spark’s youngest volunteers, contributing over 150 hours since July! Staff describe Ryder as "an absolute gem—always helpful and full of positivity."

Ryder’s favourite place to volunteer is Steven’s Lab, where he loves seeing kids enjoy it as much as he did growing up. A longtime visitor to TELUS Spark, Ryder’s passion for science has now evolved into a love for volunteering.

With dreams of pursuing medical research, Ryder’s dedication and enthusiasm inspire everyone around him. Thank you, Ryder, for all your hard work!

Meet Emily Marston

In March 2024, Spark was thrilled to have Emily Marston speak to guests on behalf of the Arctic Institute of North America about her work. In her own words she said, “It felt like a full circle moment. The Calgary Science Centre is what ‘sparked’ my interest in science when I was five years old. It put me on my path, and yesterday, the incredible people that I work with at the Arctic Institute got to present our work at TELUS Spark!”

Currently, Emily is a Project Coordinator for the Arctic Institute of North America, working on Arctic Genomics, developing tools to support environmental decision making, and the Canadian BioGenome Project which is providing the first genomic assessment of biodiversity of Canadian species.
