School’s out, but the learning doesn’t have to be! Keep the kids moving and entertained during the holiday break at Spark.

From December 26-31, the science centre is bursting with hands-on experiments, live demos, and learning that doesn’t feel like learning around every corner, including the famous return of Noon Year’s Eve on December 31! 

Explore the galleries, try out new activities, and enjoy science in a way the whole family can get excited about. Cozy up by the Chemistree, build something amazing in Steven’s Lab or BLUprint, or catch a live demo that’ll wow both kids and adults alike.

Noon Year’s Eve – Dec. 31 

Kick off the New Year a little early with a family-friendly countdown!

  • 12:00 PM Countdown Balloon Drop with Confetti Cannons 
  • Roaming Pals Calgary furry friends & Cirque du la Nuit performers 
  • Disco Dance Party with DJ Cosmic Ray at 12:15 PM - 3:00 PM in Feature Gallery
  • Special appearance by Queen Elsa 
  • DIY Noise Makers — make your own instrument for the countdown 
  • Hands-on science demos all day 

Pro tip! Arrive by 11 AM to grab your spot. Some galleries (like Steven’s Lab & RO5iE) will pause briefly for the countdown.

The Merry Mixture

Hands-on science! Using redox chemistry, transform ordinary solutions into a colourful holiday spectacle!

This activity runs as two different experiments, each with its own age requirement:

Weekday Experiment (Monday – Friday, 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM)
Ages 6+ (adult supervision required)

Weekend & PD Day Experiment (Saturday – Sunday, 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM)
Ages 10+ (adult supervision required)
