Designed for Grades 4-6

Spark offers curriculum linked workshops designed for Grades 4-6, plus a special 90-minute Science of Mental Health program. Add a Live Science Demo, Planetarium Show and/or Dome Theatre Movie to build a brilliant day!

Each program is designed for a 30-student maximum to ensure program quality and accessibility. Larger group? No problem. Call the Spark School Programs booking team to discuss adding a few extra students to multiple bookings.

Prices are per class (up to 30 students). GST is not applied to school programs for grades 4-6.

Qualified teachers and chaperones with ratio limit are admitted free on the day of visit. The chaperone to student ratio for grades 4-6 is one chaperone per five students (1:5). Additional chaperones will be charged an admission fee.

Students must remain within supervising adults at all times when visiting Spark.

Programs

Once Upon a Shadow

Grade 4 | 90 Mins | Workshop

Once upon a time, there was a cute little bunny being chased by a scary monster, all created with cut-outs, lights and shadows. In this hands-up workshop (literally!), students will delight their fellow classmates by writing, directing and performing their own shadow puppet stories, and explore the fundamental principles of light, colour and shadow in the process.

Machine Talent Show

Grade 4 | 60 Mins | Workshop

Without a tool, impossible. With a tool, a piece of cake. This is the magic of simple machines. In this workshop, students will be challenged to make a robot that has a special talent and then decide what they will make their simple robot do. Simple machines that are widely used include the wheel and axle, pulley, inclined plane, screw, wedge and lever.Students will create their own simple machine using a wheel-and-axle design and it will culminate in a classroom talent show!

What's in the Water?

Grade 4 | 60 Mins | Workshop

If you poured sewage water through a 20-foot column of gravel, would you drink the water that comes out? Scientists say it is perfectly safe — depending on the characteristics of the gravel. Students will work in teams to design and build their own filtration systems and then test and assess the sometime surprising effectiveness of simple systems. Contaminants from artificial and natural sources will be explored to see what works and what doesn’t when it comes to protecting water quality. Don’t worry, no sewage is involved.

This is like a tv game show in the classroom, with all of the positive tension and excitement!
