This inspiring movie follows the epic journey of the iconic Monarch butterfly on one of the most incredible migrations on Earth, as well as the determined Canadian scientist, Dr. Fred Urquhart, who spent 40 years trying to determine the mysteries surrounding their journey and secret winter hideaway.

Produced by Toronto-based SK Films, Flight of the Butterflies tracks the Monarchs as they make their way through Mexico, the USA, and on to Canada.
Through breathtaking Giant Screen digital technology, this true story tells the compelling adventure of Dr. Urquhart and his life-long devotion to tracking the epic migration patterns of the delicate, yet resilient Monarch butterfly.

SPACE JUNK 

After half a century of space exploration we’re now suddenly faced with what has long been a staple of science fiction—an orbiting junkyard of cast-off space debris.

On Sept 23, 2011 southern Alberta was just minutes away from being a target for a huge piece of space debris. Fortunately, it fell into the Pacific just before reaching us. With media headlines repeatedly warning us of “space junk” falling from the sky, there are more and more questions being asked. What is space junk?  How did it get there? Just how big (and serious) is the problem?  Narrated  by Academy Award® Nominee Tom Wilkinson,  Space Junk is the first movie to explore the exponentially expanding ring of debris that threatens the  safety of our planet’s orbits.

We think of reefs as exotic, far off places, yet every reef is a living city beneath the sea with a parallel existence to ours, distant yet undeniably connected. What we do in our cities has devastating repercussions on these cities beneath the sea.

Join our Facilitators on a spectacular journey through our solar system that you, the audience, directs! A different experience with every visit, this show features a live presentation following Wildest Weather in the Solar System, a fly-through exploration of the most beautiful, powerful, and mysterious weather phenomena in the solar system, ranging from a storm the size of a 100-megaton hydrogen bomb and a 400-year-old hurricane, to magnetic storms on the sun and liquid methane showers on Titan.

 TORNADO ALLEY:

Experience the magnificent force of one of nature's most destructive marvels - the infamous tornado. Viewers get to share the ride with VORTEX2 researchers as they aim to infiltrate the tornado's inner core and record scientific data.

The HD Digital Dome Theatre will be closed for technology upgrades on Monday, April 29 and Tuesday, April 30.

 

DOME ONLY OPTION
We're delighted to offer our visitors the option to just come for the Dome! Shows denoted with "D.O." are available just for the cost of HD Digital Dome Theatre Admission, and are offered on the last show of the day on weekends and on Calgary Board of Education PD days.

 

THEATRE ADMISSION 

Seating is available on a first-come first-served basis. Be sure to pick up your tickets at the beginning of your visit! All shows, including the complimentary show require a ticket to enter. Please keep your Membership Card or General Admission ticket with you so you can enter the rest of the facility after enjoying the HD Digital Dome Theatre.
