What brings people together? Food! What pairs best with food? A drink! What kind of drink do you pair with your food? Come to Spark October 14 and let us teach you.

Join Spark on October 14 from 7:00 PM to midnight, as the fall harvest is honoured at 'Bon Appétit'. Explore the intersection of socialization, history and geography that food represents, learn how food has connected humanity through history, and take a deep dive into what the future of farming looks like - all while enjoying delicious bites, drinks, science and live music!

What can you expect from an 18+ night at the science centre?

  • The entire science centre is open for adults-only!
  • Partake in a beer sampling garden featuring local breweries and distilleries.
  • Taste delicious small plates from local vendors and restaurants at a special food market, including Italian and Indigenous foods.  
  • Play with adorable furry friends from PALS (Pet Access League Society).
  • Enjoy fun learning sessions led by industry experts, including keynote speakers Orsha Magyar from Neurotrition and mycologist Sean Campbell.
  • Watch a live cooking demonstration, of both local and international cuisine, from the Egg Farmers of Alberta. 
  • Stomp your way through large buckets of grapes to experience the traditional way to make wine.
  • Listen to live Music from Joel Fraser and DJ Chris Brennan, as well as an open mic.
  • Catch a show in the Infinity Dome.
  • Enjoy food games, egg races, a human claw machine... and so much more.

World Egg Day

October 14th is World Egg Day! Take part in an egg relay race, drop eggs from the Atrium bridge and even dissect an egg.

Egg Farmers of Alberta are bringing in an Alberta chef for live cooking demonstrations of both local and international cuisine.


Serotonin Boost with PALS

Pet Access League Society (PALS) provides Pet Visitation Therapy to over 60 facilities in the City of Calgary. Boost those serotonin receptors in your brain by playing with these adorable fur-friends all night long!


DJ Chris Brennan

For live mixed electronic music perfect for dancing, DJ Chris Brennan will be filling Spark's Atrium with his unique style of music.



Orsha Magyar - Feeding the Gut to Fuel The Brain

Orsha Magyar is from Neurotrition, a company that helps people make the connection between nourishing food, and thinking, feeling and performing better.


Sean Campbell - Mycologist (mushrooms) 

Sean Campbell is the Founder and current Director of LeShroomery Inc. - A fungus-based Calgary start up.


Molecular Mixology- A Masterclass with Jimmy Nguyen

First Class: 6:30 - 7:30 PM

Second Class: 8:00 - 9:00 PM

After 300 hundred years of cocktail creation history under humanities belt, Jimmy Nguyen is the bartender to take our guests towards the future frontier of bartending. In this workshop, guests will learn techniques in reverse spherification and molecular gastronomy to change the way you create and consume an evolved version of a Dark and Stormy Cocktail.

Located in the Double Studio.

      An ATM is located on the second floor at the top of the entry stairs, outside of the Spark Eatery.

      Due to capacity and previous events selling out, reserving a ticket online ahead of time is highly encouraged.

    • Can I buy tickets at the door?

      You can, but due to capacity and previous events selling out, reserving a ticket online ahead of time is highly encouraged.

    • Are children allowed?

      Spark After Dark is an 18+ event only. So, no children.

    • How much is parking?

      Parking is FREE for Spark members. For everyone else, parking is $7 and is managed by Calgary Parking Authority through ParkPlus. If paying through the ParkPlus mobile app, enter Zone 8310 or use one of the pay machines located near the front doors. To pay online with ParkPlus, click here.

    • Will the entire science centre be open for this event?

      Yes! That includes the Digital Immersion Gallery, Earth and Sky gallery, Being Human gallery, Open Studio, Infinity Dome, Spark Eatery and Astronaut Ice Cream café. Unfortunately, the Brainasium Outdoor Park will still be under renovation.

    • Is there overflow parking?

      Yes! If there is not enough room in the Spark parking lot, visitors are welcome to use the north parking lot of the Calgary Zoo at 84 St. Georges Drive NE. For more information, visit:


Scare, surprise and delight at Spark, as the science centre transforms into a Halloween extravaganza for the entire month of October! Explore the gross side of science with fake blood, dissections, gelatin brain surgery and smashing pumpkins. BTW, costumes are encouraged!
