Position Description

The casino event is one of Spark’s biggest fundraising initiatives of the year. This year’s event will be held at Cowboys Casino (421 12 Ave SE) on Tuesday, March 17 and Wednesday, March 18, 2020. A variety of positions and times are available, and volunteers can enjoy a complimentary meal while on duty.


  • The Spark casino event takes place March 17-18, 2020
    • Shifts are 11:00 AM to 7:15 PM, 7:00 PM to 3:45 AM, and 11:00 PM to 3:45 AM
  • Volunteers can work one or both days; if volunteers work more than one shift, they must fill the same position each time

Key Responsibilities

  • General Manager
    • Oversees all aspects of the casino, including: ensuring all positions are staffed in advance of each shift, tracking all financial transactions, following opening and closing procedures, ensuring secure handling and storage of cash and chips during the event, and filling in for other positions as necessary on a temporary basis or due to unforeseen circumstances
  • Banker
    • Supervises the cash cage, including: documenting all cash cage transactions, ensuring the security of the chips and cash in the cash cage, and holding the cashiers accountable for the chips and cash they manage while on duty
  • Cashier
    • Redeems players’ chips for cash and ensures the security of cash and chips for which they’re responsible
  • Chip Runner
    • Opens, distributes, maintains, and closes an inventory of chips and credits
  • Count Room Supervisor
    • Supervises the count room, including: securing the count room, counting and verifying cash and chips, supplying cash to the Banker as required, and generating final reports
  • Count Room Staff
    • Sorting, counting, recording, verifying, and grouping cash and chips

Desired Skills and Qualifications

This position is best suited for someone who is:

  • comfortable handling money
  • detail-oriented
  • punctual


  • Volunteers must be at least 18 years of age
  • Volunteers are prohibited from consuming or being under the influence of liquor or illicit substances prior to or during their shifts
  • Volunteers are prohibited from playing casino games or gaming terminals where they are working for the two days of the event
