Flint Dream Doghouse Challenge

Calling all Minecraft experts 18 and under!

Flint's Dream Doghouse Design Challenge

Spark is excited to introduce Flint to guests! But there is a problem...Flint needs a home. First, meet Flint when visiting the science centre. Next, jump on a laptop and give your design skills a whirl on Minecraft: Education Edition to design a house for Flint.

Thanks to an amazing anonymous donor, Flint is joining Calgary's family of loveable dogs as the newest mascot for science communication! As an empathy-building exercise, Spark is asking guests to flex their Minecraft muscles and design a home for Flint in the Education Edition of this popular video game.

Guests 18 years of age and under can get involved by signing up in the Atrium area (adjacent to Flint’s backyard) for a 30-minute design time-slot. There will be some traditional design materials (paper, pencil) to practice while waiting for a computer to become available.

How does it work?

  1. Guests book a 45-minute appointment on site using their own device to scan the QR code, or by signing up at the Front Desk.
  2. Guests will receive a text message calling them to the design area when their appointment is ready.
  3. Guests will have 30 minutes to design a house using specific materials given to them by Professor Spark (player in the game) in Minecraft: Education Edition.
  4. Guests will use the camera feature to photograph their design from multiple angles.
  5. Guests will submit photographs along with their name and contact information (phone number and/or email address) if they wish their design to be entered to win prizes.
  6. The winning design will be voted on by a panel of Spark Staff, and the design will be constructed onsite at Spark.

Rules:

  1. Contest is open to all on-site Spark guests under the age of 18. This contest is not available online. Due to the Minecraft Education Edition, licensing credentials in use, designs cannot be submitted from home computers.
  2. All entries must adhere to the Minecraft social contract.
  3. Cannot be combined with any other contests, all designs remain the property of TELUS Spark Science Centre.
  4. Parental consent and supervision is required for all guests under the age of 18.
  5. Please note that this competition and the dream doghouse designs are not official Minecraft products, and are not associated or approved by Mojang.
