A Brand New Kind of Volunteering Experience!

A New Volunteer Vision for TELUS Spark

You have special skills, talents and interests. Why not share them with others and make a real difference in a meaningful, fulfilling volunteer role? Our Enbridge Volunteers in Partnership Program is now recruiting people who'll bring their life and professional experiences to our programs and services to encourage learning, creativity, imagination and play among our visitors.

Embrace opportunities to work in all aspects of our organization – from direct customer service to special events, from strategic planning and program prototyping to human resources development.

Our priority is to ensure that every volunteer has a meaningful experience. Whether it's a short-term project or a long-term commitment, we value every volunteer partnership.

Every person who volunteers 100 hours or more with our organization is also eligible for a Gold Membership for up to two adults! To learn more about our Membership benefits, click here.

Understanding your Commitment to TELUS Spark

As you review our volunteer opportunities, please pay close attention to the specific tasks required of each position, the required time commitment and the necessary skills. Also, carefully consider what you are looking for from a volunteer position with TELUS Spark.

  • Have you reviewed our vision and mission statements? Do they fit with what you are looking for?
  • Are you interested in science, art, technology and the world of learning?
  • Do you like working with people of all ages?
  • Do you need volunteer hours for school credit, are you hoping to gain work-related skills, or are you looking to have fun and meet new people?
  • Are you looking for something you can do with your whole family?
  • Do you want a short-term, long-term or project-based volunteer experience?
  • How much time are you able to commit? Some positions require you to be available during specific times and days of the week or weekend; others are more flexible. Volunteering needs to fit your lifestyle as well as support the needs of our organization.
  • Are you looking for a behind-the-scenes experience, or do you want to work with our visitors and other staff out on the floor?
  • Are you interested in marketing, fundraising, human resources, business or administrative opportunities?
  • Do you wish to develop your professional skills or a personal hobby or interest?
  • Do you want to do something you are comfortable with or try something you have never done before?

Requirements & Process

  • Volunteer positions with TELUS Spark require a Security Clearance through the Calgary Police Service and, in many cases, the clearance must be complete before the start of your volunteer work with us.
  • We require a minimum of two references.
  • All candidates must complete an online volunteer interest form expressing their primary skills and attributes, general interests and professional skills that they bring to the organization. An attached resume is greatly appreciated.
  • If a position fits your experience, you will have the opportunity to interview for the desired role. We will do our best to match your needs and the experience you are looking with a role that will help us achieve our mission.

Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteers assist in all areas of TELUS Spark. To view our current volunteer opportunities, click here. To fill in a Volunteer Interest form, click here.

Here are some of the ways you can get involved:

Programming

The diverse opportunities in our programming area are full of fun and learning. Programs are offered in each of our galleries, the Creative Kids Museum, School Programs and Special Events. Programming volunteers are creative, inquisitive, excellent facilitators, customer service oriented, skilled and experienced in science, technology, the arts and research. They are able to work within a team as well as independently.

Prototyping

We are always looking for creative ways to bring engaging new exhibits to life. Our volunteers and visitors play key roles in testing potential activities and exhibits. Volunteers in this area have great imaginations and are open to trying new things. They become part of a team that makes itself available on a sporadic basis, making it a great opportunity if you're looking for something that doesn't tie you to a regular schedule.

School Programs

We have a fun and action-packed Open Minds program for students who come from all over Alberta to spend the day with us. If you love working with children, are crafty, enjoy preparing materials for classroom programs, have past experience with teaching, early childhood education or similar, and have organizational skills then a role with our School Programs Team might be what you're looking for.

Front of House Team

These are the first people our visitors meet when they enter our facility. They create a warm, welcoming environment by providing information about our exhibits and galleries and/or our membership and ticket sales. If you are bright, bubbly and outgoing, have experience in providing excellent customer service, are comfortable managing crowds and working with people of all ages, and are interested in volunteering on a regular schedule, this would be a great fit.

Special Events

Special Events are always happening at TELUS Spark. Birthday parties, private bookings, sleepovers and Atrium events are just a small sample of what we have planned during our opening year. If you are organized and creative, like working with people, are good with direction and are interested in being part of a team that works on a sporadic basis (which is good for those with busy schedules), you might want to consider joining our team.

Creative Kids Museum

The brand new Creative Kids Museum has to be seen to be believed. It is full of colourful, creative and fun exhibits and activities that will wow you! Our volunteers love working in the Creative Kids Museum. There are now more opportunities than ever for playful people who are able to work with kids and parents of all ages, facilitate individual learning, don't mind getting messy or wet and digging into whatever needs to be done that day.

Administration

We require a group of very flexible individuals to help our various departments with ongoing administrative duties. If you're looking for an opportunity to use your experience in computer-related activities, assembling packages, database entry and helping to prepare materials for events or meetings, you may have found your volunteering niche.

Volunteer Resources

Our Volunteer Program is new, and a lot must be done to successfully launch the program in our new facility. Do you enjoy public speaking? How are your interview skills? Are you creative? Do you enjoy data entry? Our program will need volunteer trainers, recognition team members, interviewers and administrative support. This is a great opportunity if you are thinking about entering the field of Volunteer Management.

Specialized Roles

As we get settled into our new facility, other TELUS Spark departments are certain to have resource requirements: Human Resources, Finance, CEO Office, Committees, Board of Directors, Marketing & Communications, Fundraising and Development, Strategic Planning, Community Development, Communications, Guest Services...the list goes on! If you have an interest in any of these areas, please contact us at volunteer@sparkscience.ca. We may be able to tailor a role specific to your skills.
